Steroid injections

When oral pain medication no longer offers sufficient relief, some doctors recommend steroid injections.

Steroids, such as cortisone, are injected directly into the joint and may offer relief from joint pain and inflammation. Effects are of limited duration (from a few weeks up to some months) but effects tend to lessen over time if injections are repeated.⁹
